PRE-MARITAL MENTORING

Are you...
  • Dating someone and wondering if he or she is the right one?
  • Thinking about engagement, but not sure, and would like help in discerning and gaining confidence about taking that next step toward engagement and marriage?
  • Engaged and want to get equipped to build a great marriage that can last?

You have come to the right place.

We have designed a pre-engagement and premarital mentoring process that has worked for over 20 years to help couples prepare for marriage.  Our mentoring process consists of the Prepare-Enrich relationship online assessment and 6 sessions with a trained mentor couple, typically occurring once per month or every few weeks.

During 6 sessions with a trained mentor, you can explore the meaning of marriage from a Christ centered view, get to know one another in a deeper context, grow spiritually and emotionally together, and learn the skills to build a great marriage.

In our experience, we have found that it can be very beneficial to begin the process of Premarital Counseling before engagement. Dating couples are strongly encouraged to complete the first 3 sessions of Premarital Counseling to help them move forward into engagement with strong confidence that it is God’s will for them to be married.  For a basic overview of our church’s view of engagement and marriage, contact Marcus at marcus@everynationseattle.org.

However, if you are already engaged and wanting to prepare for marriage, our 6 session course is right for you.

More About Our Process

Who does the Premarital mentoring?

Your premarital mentoring will be done with a married couple who has received premarital training. These couples have healthy, Christ-centered marriages, and will share from God’s Word and their own lives about marriage.

You will work with the same mentors for the 6 sessions of your premarital mentoring. Although these mentors are specifically trained in the area of premarital counseling, they are not professional, licensed counselors. They have chosen premarital mentoring as a place of ministry at Every Nation Church.

What do we talk about at the mentoring sessions?

You will discuss many subjects throughout your time together. These subjects include your family backgrounds, the biblical roles of husband and wives, communication, conflict resolution, finances, the wedding ceremony, the honeymoon, your physical relationship before and after marriage, and children. Your relationship strengths will be discussed, as well as areas that need growth.

How much does this cost?

Our premarital mentoring is offered for free to members and regular attenders at ENCS. However, there are a few resources you’ll need to purchase. Homework assignments are given prior to each session to enhance your understanding (and promote discussion) of the material. Our primary text is “Preparing for Marriage” available here. Since it is a workbook that each of you will fill out, you’ll need to purchase two copies. We also use an online relationship assessment called “Prepare-Enrich” which costs $35 per couple.

When should we get started?

The 6 sessions are most effective if you meet with your mentor couple every 3 weeks or once per month. Thus you should fill out the form below to let us know you’re interested in receiving Premarital Mentoring at least 6 months before your planned wedding date. NOTE: If you contact us less than 6 months before your wedding date, we may or may not be able to accommodate your request for mentoring through our church, but we will do our best to help.

Requirements

Due to our limited resources, at this time we can only offer Premarital Mentoring to members and regular attenders of Every Nation Church Seattle. If you wish for one of our pastors to marry you, you must complete Premarital Mentoring either through ENCS, or another approved source.
